Our Halal Standard & Certifications
Baab functions as an independent directory. Displayed certification statuses, "hand slaughtered" designations, and Zabiha claims reflect the direct assertions of third-party certifying bodies (such as HMS USA, HFSAA, and HMA Canada) or the reporting businesses. Baab does not independently audit slaughterhouses, verify slaughter methods, or guarantee certification validity.
What are the Conditions of Zabiha?
Recognized certifying bodies like HMS USA and HFSAA outline three mandatory conditions for Zabiha slaughter:
- Vital throat passages severed: The main veins and throat passages must be cleanly severed by hand in a single motion.
- Bismillah pronounced at slaughter: Mentioning Allah's name at the exact moment of slaughter is mandatory. Mechanical playback or general factory audio does not fulfill this requirement.
- Qualified Muslim slaughterer: The slaughter must be physically performed by a qualified Muslim.
What does Hand Slaughtered Zabihah Halal (HSZH) mean?
HSZH (Hand Slaughtered Zabihah Halal) is Baab's explanatory tag for a business that reportsβand where a recognized certifier independently monitorsβthat its meat is hand-slaughtered Zabiha. This label simply reflects what the listed certifier publishes and tracks; it is not a certification created or issued by Baab.
